The boat composition is usually a mixture of 2 or 3 materials, aimed at giving optimum properties of conductivity, wetability, thermal shock resistance & electrical resistance.
Boats are made using powder metallurgy. Quality can be affected, by the composition & also by powder size, mixing & sintering.
The 3 materials used in the boat manufacture are listed below:-
-Titanium diboride - TiB2
.Electrical conductor, easily wet by molten aluminium
-Boron Nitride - BN
.Electrical insulator, good thermal shock resistance, easily machined
-Aluminium Nitride - AlN
.Electrical insulator, good thermal conductivity
