Question

#561
Subject: Dyne level of metallized surface deteriorates within a week.

Dyne level of metallized surface (Al -metallized) BOPP film deteriorates within a week. What are the possible reasons? Would the Plasma treatment of base BOPP film help the retention of dyne level of the metallized surface? Just after metallization the dyne level is more than 56 dyne/cm whereas it drops to less than 38 within a week.

Plasma treatment of the base will not help.

Plasma treatment of the base will not help. What is happening is that additives from the film bloom to the surface opposite to the metal and transfer to the metal surface in the roll. This leaves the "slip" material from the film on the metal surface lowering the dyne level. The metallized film should be treated inline with the next conversion step to clean the surface of the organic contaminants.
